Our story
LouAg Farms carries two names and three generations. Louis and Agnes started here with a dairy herd. Today the family raises North American bison across roughly 110 acres in three locations around Floyds Knobs, on the same ground the family has worked for decades.
Our bulls come from the Dakotas and Canada to keep the herd strong and true to the original American bison. The land changed hands and changed animals. The standard never did.
Why bison
All-natural feed combined with practices free of growth hormones, steroids, and artificial reproduction makes our bison as healthy as nature can provide.
Bison is leaner than beef, with less fat, less sodium, and less cholesterol. A red meat you can feel good about putting on the table.
Pasture plus non-GMO hay, oats, and corn. Nothing artificial added, the way the herd is meant to eat.
No growth hormones. No steroids. No artificial reproduction. Healthy genetics, healthy land, healthy meat.
Raised on the same Floyds Knobs ground three generations of our family have worked.

From our kitchen
Bison is leaner than other red meats, with less fat, less sodium, and less cholesterol. That changes how you cook it. Treat it gently and it rewards you.
Less fat means it cooks faster than beef. Take it off the heat sooner than you think.
Lower heat keeps it tender and juicy. High and fast dries it out.
Aim for rare to medium. Bison is best when it is never cooked well done.
Give it a few minutes off the heat before slicing so the juices settle.
